HABITABLE
BOXES AND PEOPLE SHELVES
These boxes and shelves model themselves
on the early works of the Modern Movement which were like huge cubical
machines, Machines à Habiter, but they are mostly
quite brightly painted. In some of them each apartment is identified by
expressing it as an unit on the cellular façades. In all of them
the access and circulation is schematic and direct.

The
Building for Antonio Fernandes in Alto Mahé
frames each the two apartments on either side of the stairs and
bears a large and walled roof terrace. A pebble mural faces the
street. It is also the wall enclosing the garden of one of the ground
apartments.
|
The
House of the Dragon has a huge
raised entrance portico and many differentiated stone mosaic textures
The black end white dragon is some twelve metres long.

The
Apartments and Shops at Maxaquene identify the three
different rent sections of the building in three layers - the shops,
the apartments and the servants' quarters.
|
The
large Predio Tonelli has both small bachelor flats
and duplexes. The facades express this and the various means of
access.
